Know Your Rights: Speak Truth, Stay Protected: If you’re a student, employee, donor, or member who has concerns about financial or ethical misconduct in a nonprofit:

You have the right to speak out: The First Amendment protects your ability to raise concerns, share public information, and express your opinions—especially when done in good faith and for the public benefit.

You can share public records: IRS 990 forms, state nonprofit filings, public emails, and grant disclosures are fair to quote and analyze.

You’re protected against retaliation: Many states have whistleblower laws that protect you from threats, intimidation, or employment-related retaliation if you expose wrongdoing.

You’re not alone: Others have come forward. You are part of a growing community demanding transparency and integrity.
